A fine lemongrass acidity is balanced by brown sugar sweetness – tangerine notes in the finish

This coffee comes from a group of small producers called Tierra Libertad in a very hard to get to place called Angel Diaz in the area of Siltepec, Chiapas State, Mexico. We were here in Jan 2017.

Our meeting was with Rayder Peter Hernández who farms 10Ha of Red / Yellow Bourbon,  Sabira De Leon, farming 10Ha of Bourbon, Herminia Hernández the daughter of Sabira farming 1Ha of outstanding Bourbon, Gregorio Munaz Angel farming 9Ha of Bourbon and Arabe and Julio Roblero Vazquez, farming 3Ha of Bourbon.

It basically took us three days of flying and driving from Mexico City to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and then on to Angel Diaz - what took the most time was around 47 miles of dirt and rock track which took us up to 1900 meters ( 6230 feet) which is where these guys farm and now you can drink their new crop this year 2017.

Angel Diaz is locatied in the central part of Chiapas which holds the cloud forest and middle rain forest of the Soconusco zone around the Novillero River.

Chiapas borders the Guatemalan border and thus the coffees from this area in our opinion is little brighter and sweeter than the rest of the other growing areas in Mexico – bearing more resemblance to the Huehuetenango growing areas of Guatemala.

All our coffee is sold as whole beans, which we recommend for optimum flavour and freshness. If you don’t own a grinder you can buy one here, or you can specify that you’d like us to grind it for you in your Basket.
