Costa Rica is a rugged, rainforested Central American country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. Though its capital, San Jose, is home to cultural institutions like the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, Costa Rica is known for its beaches, volcanoes and of course its wondeful coffee. It has been grown in Costa Rica since the early 19th century. For nearly fifty years (1846 - 1890), coffee was the sole export of the country, driving infrastructure such as railways (linking the country to the Atlantic).

Costa Rican coffees have become exciting to explore, as it is now easier to taste several different coffees from a particular area side by side, and begin to see the effect geography can have on taste. The coffees from this part of the world are generally very clean and sweet.
